The FOSE conference, held at the Washington Convention Center, provided attendees with numerous training opportunities including a special track on open source software. Devis President, Peter Gallagher, was invited to speak on "Uncle Sam Embraces Tux – How US Government Bodies are Deploying Linux." His presentation broadened the message from simply Linux to the wider adoption and utilization of open source software.
"The challenge in taking appropriate advantage of open source is to work around all of the 'hype,' to focus on specific business processes. Linux is just one open source product, albeit the most well known, but there are many opportunities in the 'stack,' desktop, and vertical application space to apply this model to the benefit of eGovernment." according to Gallagher.
